Continuing with my Comic Book Design Series, I have now chosen the story which I will be bringing to life in comic book form. In my last post I looked at ways to find ideas for comic books and pretty much stumbled in the realms of Norse Mythology after analyzing popular comics that are available today.
In the past few days I have watched multiple videos on Youtube about Norse Mythology as well as downloading an Audiobook from Audible in an attempt to learn as much as I can about the subject. Comic books aside, I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the subject and found it fascinating.
Among all of the heroic stories about The Norse Cosmology, Odin and Thor there was one story which really captured my imagination. It is a story that I had never even remotely heard of ever before – It is the story of Loki’s children…
Loki had Kids, Who knew?
A few days ago, I just thought that Loki was the overconfident, mischievous god portrayed by Tom Hiddleston in the Marvel series. Sure that is true but it turns out that he is also a father. Every now and again he would leave his wife for a few days to visit a giantess called Angrboda. Angrboda lived in Jotunheim – the land of the frost giants. Loki & Angrboda had 3 children and they were not what you would call ordinary children. The eldest was a serpent called Jormungandr. The middle child was a wolf called Fenrir and the youngest was a half living, half dead girl called Hel. These three children would appear to Odin in a dream and set of a chain of events which would lead to the end of all things, or Ragnarok as it is foretold in Norse mythology.
Like I said, this story really got me thinking and I think it is the perfect story for my first comic book. As per the 8 steps I will be following to create my comic book, I can now take this idea in to script writing. Not that I have reason to doubt the 8 steps just yet, I can already see that character development is going to be a large part of this process which I have not really factored in to my timeline. I do want all of my characters to be 100% original so that is going to take some time. I am also starting to think about the branding of my comic book. I am going to need a name for the series, the episode and probably a logo to go with it. These things were not factored in to my timeline but sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know. At the end of this process I will have my own interpretation on what steps you need to follow to create a comic book
Onwards!
Thanks for reading this post and in the next post I will share the wire frame for my comic book, probably in PDF / Google Slides which includes the script.
I am really enjoying this process so far and look forward to seeing it through the next phases.
Thanks for reading and Go Create Something!
